Compare the future cost of paying for one repair privately with making a claim, using only the premiums, NCD treatment and policy terms you enter.

Methodology and boundaries
The GIA common illustration is used only for private-car NCD. At the first renewal, the no-claim path steps up by 10 points to the 50% cap, while the claim path first applies the initial claim reduction; recovery occurs only in later years under the explicit no-further-claims assumption. Custom mode uses only your entered schedule.
premiumPayable = eligible base × (1 − NCD rate) + non-NCD chargesAn already-paid current premium is a common sunk cost unless you enter genuine unequal adjustments.
Worked example
Fictional example: current NCD 50%, S$2,000 eligible base in each of three renewals, zero charges, one claim, S$600 excess and a fully eligible S$1,000 repair. Private-path premiums total S$3,000 and the path totals S$4,000. Claim-path premiums are S$1,600, S$1,400 and S$1,200, totalling S$4,200; that path totals S$4,800. The simple break-even is S$1,800.
Limitations
- Does not determine accident fault or third-party liability.
- Does not predict quotations, underwriting, renewal or insurer decisions.
- Does not replace the insurer, policy wording, authorised workshop or reporting requirements.
- NCD protection may not transfer and does not guarantee an unchanged base or final premium.
Frequently asked questions
Must I report after a private settlement?
Accident reporting and making an insurance claim are separate decisions. Under the Motor Claims Framework, accidents should be reported to the insurer within 24 hours or by the next working day, including where a private settlement is made. Check your insurer’s instructions.
Why not reverse the eligible base from my final premium?
Because non-NCD charges, discounts and underwriting adjustments may not receive NCD. Without a breakdown, a reverse-derived value is not an exact fact.
Will the result tell me whether to claim?
This is a neutral cost comparison, not a recommendation to claim or settle privately.
