Total Car Ownership Cost Calculator

Enter the vehicle, loan, end-value and operating-cost assumptions for one ownership period. The calculator reconciles purchase cash, financing, vehicle value change, fixed and usage-linked costs without counting loan principal twice, then keeps Current, Target car and No car states together.

Calculate one chosen ownership period for a new PARF, used PARF or COE-renewed car. Cash flow, economic cost and optional opportunity value stay separate.

Decision evidence

Separate cash flow from the economic cost of owning a car

Compares one user-defined ownership horizon across purchase cash, financing, running costs, end value and alternative monthly transport states.

Who this is for

Households comparing a Current state, a Target car and a No-car baseline with their own vehicle and usage assumptions.

What it does not decide

It does not predict resale value, PQP, repairs, returns or lender approval, and it does not recommend a vehicle or financing offer.

1Vehicle and ownership period

Choose the car type and how long you expect to own it. Used and renewed-car horizons cannot pass the entered COE expiry.

2Purchase and financing cash flow

Enter the actual price and flat-rate loan terms. Remaining principal at sale is shown as an exit cash flow, not a second economic cost.

3End value and paper value

For a market sale, enter one sale value that already reflects the vehicle and its paper value. For deregistration, components are added separately.

4Fixed recurring costs

Use your annual road tax and insurance plus regular season parking.

5Usage-linked and irregular costs

Enter costs for your mileage and use pattern; do not rely on hidden make or model assumptions.

6Comparison and sensitivity

Keep Current, Target car and No car states together, then test running-cost and end-value uncertainty.

Calculated in your browser. Nothing leaves your device unless you choose to save.

Method and version

total-car-ownership-cost-v1.0.0 · source set checked 11 Sep 2026

Cash flow counts money paid and received during the horizon. Economic cost counts vehicle value change, acquisition extras, interest, settlement fee and running costs. Loan principal is not added twice; an inclusive market sale value is never increased again by paper value. Opportunity value remains separate.

Material limitations

  • All vehicle prices, operating costs and end values remain user-entered; the result is not a resale forecast.
  • A positive opportunity value is a scenario at your chosen return, not an investment forecast or ownership cost.
